Helpful Tips For Carpet Cleaning

Posted on

How often should you have your carpet cleaned?

Your answer to this question may be whenever necessary for a lot of people; that could be true depending on your carpet care needs and circumstances. On an average to help maintain a healthy home or business environment, you should have your carpets cleaned twice a year, once every six months. Germs, bacteria, and dust-mites can accumulate quickly possibly causing allergies or respiratory conditions if left uncleaned. If you happen to have heavy traffic, a full house, three or more children and/or pets, you definitely need to have your carpets cleaned three to four times a year, a minimum of once every four months.

Carpet Spills:

If you have light colored carpeting (beige, pink, white, light blue, light green, etc.) and you so happen to spill a dark  colored liquid (for example – grape juice, fruit punch, wine, strawberry soda) on your carpet, simply take a clean white towel, wet one end. Using the wet end of the towel, soak up and wipe clean the spilled area. Using the dry end of the towel, blot the area dry. Do this immediately after the spill. If you allow the stain to set, you run the risk of the dark-colored spill dying your light colored carpet.

Carpet Cleaning Drying Process:

Deep steam cleaning is a very thorough cleaning process that removes dirt and bacteria from your rugs and carpets. Deep steam cleaning is a widely used and is an effective method in cleaning rugs and carpets. A deep carpet cleaning that is performed by a trained experienced technician will leave your carpets damp, never soaking wet, and they should dry within two to four hours. However, there are some cases that it may take longer. Here are a couple of things you can do to speed up the drying process.

Open a few windows and doors allowing air to circulate through your home or office depending on the season.

Note: Air helps to expedite the drying process.

You may want to turn on some ceiling and/or portable floor fans.

Never cover your carpet with towels, sheets, etc. after your steam cleaning. By doing so you will lock in the moisture making it nearly impossible for your carpet to dry in a timely manner. Remember air helps complete the drying process to allow the fibers of your rugs and carpets to breathe.

After your carpet cleaning appointment, some customers like to cover their carpets with towels, sheets, or paper so they can immediately walk on it. Everette Carpet Care & Restoration believes that this is not a good practice because of the negative effect covering your carpets have on the carpets drying in a timely manner. We do provide you with shoe covers should you need to walk throughout your home or office. We are one of the leading carpet cleaning companies that use the steam cleaning method. A process, when performed properly, leaves only a minimum amount of moisture. The mist that’s left on the carpet after the carpet cleaning dries quicker with air flow from open windows, fans, etc. Covering your carpets after having them steam cleaned only delays the drying time.

Vacuum Your Carpets and Rugs on a Regular Basis

A healthy tip in maintaining your carpets and rugs is to vacuum them regularly. You’ll be surprised how quickly dust and dirt accumulate in them. It is a good practice to vacuum the carpets of your home two to three times a week at a minimum and your office or business carpets (if heavy traffic) at least daily. There are two specific reasons why you want to vacuum your carpets on a regular basis:

To receive the best result from your next carpet cleaning, a thorough vacuuming before your appointment is extremely necessary.

Remember vacuuming helps in maintaining your carpets, but you ultimately need to have them professionally cleaned to remove hidden dirt and bacteria.

The 5 Costly Misconceptions of Professional Carpet Cleaning

Posted on Updated on

HMMMM!!!pic

Many homeowners do not know or choose not know about this unregulated industry, so I’ve gathered some information on the subject.

Misconception # 1 – “You should wait as long as possible before cleaning your carpet.”
The answer to this is no. Dirt is an abrasive, like sand paper. Every time you step on the carpet, you grind the dirt deeper into your carpet fibers. This cuts your carpet, just as if you had used a knife. This most certainly causes it to wear out faster. What about constant vacuuming, you ask. Vacuuming helps, but by itself it’s simply not enough. The longer you wait to have your carpet cleaned thoroughly, the more damage you do to it.

Misconception #2 – “The only reason to clean carpet is to get out the dirt.”
The answer to this is no. Outdoor air contains pollen, fungus, bacteria, air pollution, cigarette smoke, car exhaust—and hundreds of other chemicals. When you and your family members and even your pets come into your home, those pollutants are carried in on them and usually end up in your carpet.
If you have allergies, asthma, emphysema, or other breathing problems – one major source of your problem could be the pollen, fungus, pet dander, and chemicals in your carpet.

Misconception #3 – “Only one method of carpet cleaning is the best.”
The answer to this is no. There are multiple methods of cleaning approved by the IICRC – the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification. Depending on the living situation (a high-rise versus a single family home), or the level of soiling, or the methods required by your carpet warranty, or the specific needs of the occupants – it is the professional cleaning technician who is trained to choose the best method for the results you and your home require. A thorough Carpet Audit™ by an Ethical Services member will present you with all of your options, and all costs associated with the method they recommend for your carpeting. The best carpet cleaning companies are those that have been certified by the NICC -National Institute of Carpet Cleaning.

Misconception #4 – “Having the right equipment is all a company needs to clean your carpet properly.”
This is not true. Many companies/ technicians in the carpet cleaning industry are untrained. This is an unregulated industry so you must be wary of the individuals you allow to come into your home, and the chemicals they may be using.
Certification is important, as is belonging to nationally recognized associations and attending their educational courses. This shows the consumer that the company values technical training and continually updating their knowledge of the latest technology, techniques, and safest solutions. The best equipment with untrained employees behind them can lead to expensive errors and safety issues, so be certain to check for verification that the individuals you are allowing into your home are trained.

Misconception #5 – “The company that offers the lowest price is the company you should hire.”
This is the biggest misconception of all. Some carpet cleaners advertise room cleaning around $9.95 per room, and then pressure you into paying a lot more once they get inside your home. Sadly, some carpet cleaners may even break the law by using illegal bait and switch tactics. That’s why we’re exposing the truth of  the carpet cleaning industry, as a way to safeguard the public.

The only way you can make an intelligent decision is to have all of the facts you need. Insist on a complete written quote before any work is performed so that you can protect yourself. No one can clean at that price without strong- arming additional sales, so look for a company that is not advertising a price that seems too good to be true….. it always unfortunately is.

3 Things To Know Before Hiring a Carpet Cleaning Company That Could Actually Save Your Life

Posted on Updated on

Oh No!

Many Companies don’t clean & disinfect their equipment after previous jobs. This is definitely hazardous to your health. Whatever was taken from the previous client’s carpet, will now be transferred to your carpet. Hopefully it wasn’t a water damage situation with a sewage back up or other bacterial spill. There are many hazardous organisms such as bacteria, viruses, mold and fungi that thrive in standing water.

Time is an important consideration in clean up. Organisms to be killed will not become airborne as long as they remain wet. Once dried, organisms can spread by dust particles. Consequently, it is important to bring the sanitizing solution in contact with contaminated surfaces as soon as possible after completing each clients home.

This is an unregulated industry, so you must be wary of the individuals you allow to come into your home or office and the chemicals they may be using. The company you use should be a reputable company with social proof that can be tracked, along with plenty of client testimonials that can be easily attained. It’s hard to hide reviews nowadays with the media. So there’s bound to be some information on the company you choose.

Also, many companies use subcontractors. Some of these subcontractors are fine and others are not. Back ground checks are not always reliable as we’ve found from the media. Would you let criminals in your home around your family & belongings? Be cautious; make sure the company you hire has employees. Anyone can be a subcontractor.

Last but not least, make sure the company you hire is properly insured. This is very important, otherwise if a problem arises (such as fire or major accident) or your property gets damaged, it may be covered. If not you could lose your lifestyle or more importantly your life. At least 1 million general liability insurance is adequate for the cleaning industry. If the company that you hire provides a larger amount of insurance, then the more the merrier.

Be cautious, ask questions, protect yourself, do your research. Most importantly, make sure you feel comfortable with the company you hire.

Carpet Maintenance And Indoor Air Quality

Posted on Updated on

Many people do not know how to properly care for and clean their carpets, and they are missing a great opportunity to help improve their indoor air quality.

So now you’ve installed new carpeting throughout your home. The technician leaves you to frolic around without a care. The feeling is totally refreshing.  You feel as though you can practically eat off of it. It feels so luxurious through your toes as you walk barefoot through the rooms. You’re not even worried about sleeping on it without linens. You let your baby crawl around aimlessly from room to room. Then as you lie there on the carpet a thought comes to mind. “How do I keep my carpet looking new?” Well the first thing you should know is that you’re not alone with this question. Many people don’t know the first thing about keeping the carpets looking their best. What people don’t understand is that maintenance takes work. That is why we are here. Carpet can last a very long time when it is properly maintained and cared for.  I’ve seen carpets that were 20 years old that looked brand new because they were well cared for!  On the other hand I’ve seen relatively new carpet that looked 20 years old because no one was caring for it properly.

Did you know that Pollutants in the air filter through your carpet? The carpet actually traps them so you don’t breathe them over and over again. But when the trap gets full, your family starts breathing in those harmful pollutants such as, dust mite debris, pollens, fungus, spores, bacteria and a long list of other disgusting things. Once your carpet’s natural filtering ability gets full, it is time for a certified carpet cleaning company with The Most Thorough Cleaning Ever to clean your carpets for your health’s sake. You really should clean every six months and you will find that you will breathe a lot easier.

The fact is that if you clean your carpets frequently, when traffic lanes first start to appear, they will last longer, look better, and protect your family’s health. But don’t just call any company, call a company that will give you The Most Thorough Cleaning Ever…

Did you know that the outdoor air pollutants are carried into your home by you, your family or your friends? These air pollutants contain pollens, fungus, bacteria, air pollution, cigarette smoke, car exhaust and hundreds of other chemicals. These pollutants are carried in by you or family members and usually end up in your carpets.

If you or someone in your family has allergies, asthma, emphysema, or other breathing problems – one major source of your problem could be the pollens, fungus, pet dander, and chemicals in your carpet.

One way to stop the pollutants from coming into your home is to have everyone take their shoes off at the door. I know that it’s a pain to do, but you will be extending the life of your carpet. Which is more important your family and friends feelings OR your investment, and your family’s health.
